Workshops - Self Translated

a performative group inquiry

In the workshop, the participants will create an emotional attentive space where one’s story can be told in an invented and authentic personal sign-language.

Connecting to the nature of our conciseness, translating our private thoughts and memories into gentle movements in space, signing to ourselves and to another, we dive into a mutual journey, forming meaningful relations of physical understanding and emotional trust. The workshop can be accessible to Deaf men by simaulteanous Sign Language interpretation.

Connecting to the nature of our conciseness and translating our private states into mindful movements in space, we dive into a mutual journey, forming meaningful relations of physical understanding and emotional trust.

By forming a strong physical and intimate mutual base, we will attentively acknowledge the individual within the group and assist him to unlock subconscious emotional baggage while the other group members will take an active part emancipating his storyline.

The group will function as a communal unit empowering the distinctiveness in each member.
The participants will explore various physical, emotional and sensual states and qualities to search for varied ways to express the self and listen to the narrative of the other.

It is our aim to expand the boundaries between intimacy and exposure while giving an importance to the process of healing which can be found in the process of sharing.

Through talks and exercises we will reach deeper levels of understanding what Self-Intimacy is. We will learn how to use our authentic sensuality as a medium for self love and self healing, touch the places in our mind that are nourished by poisoned sexuality and acquire practical tools to integrate more sensual/healing qualities into our everyday reality.

The Self Translated Workshop will be based on improvisation sessions and will also make use of visual elements brought by the participants (on the second day). It will be dealing with the themes: brotherhood, sharing, language, language-barriers, listening, intimacy, childhood, affiliation, identity, dreams, freedom, community and communication and will include various group missions and individual tasks (such as: ‘automatic writing’, speech-acts and the formation of personal ceremonies).

The workshop is open to all GBTQ+men in all ages, with or without a background in performing arts and can be accessible to Deaf and hard of hearing men by simaulteanous Sign Language interpretation.
